"It Was a Trip -
  On Wings of Music"

autobiography by Jerry Byrd

"Pedal Steel Workshop"
writings of Tom Bradshaw

This 60-page magazine-size booklet contains all of Tom Bradshaw's writings for Guitar Player magazine, from 1968 through 1976. In addition to his "Pedal Steel Workshop" columns, it includes complete interviews with Ralph Mooney, Maurice Anderson, Speedy West, Leon Rhodes, Sonny Curtis, Jimmy Bryant, Jerry Byrd, Curley Chalker and Tom Brumley.

"Pushin' Pedals"
writings of Paul Graupp

Forum member Paul Graupp became famous among steel players by virtue of his writings in Fretts magazine. Throughout the 1960's, Paul documented his journey of discovery as he learned the musical theory behind the pedal steel, a new instrument that was developing at an incredible rate. Paul visited many of the famous players of the time, documenting their tunings and pedal changes. Fascinating!

Bonus: also included is a 1963 article by Jerry Byrd entitled "The Trials of a Professional". This very entertaining 2-page article gives a glimpse into the philosophy and humor of the master.

This 64-page magazine-size booklet is a time capsule from the golden age of steel. If you weren't there, you should read it for perspective. If you were, you'll want to read it to remember. Every steel gutiarist should own this book.
